“Too Much Zoom Makes Us All Go Blind” – Theatre@CUE

Posted on: Aug 20, 2020

A Creation Project Inspired by the Neo-Futurists
Directed and facilitated by Dave Horak

Concordia University of Edmonton’s THEATRE AT CUE is thrilled to announce the 2020 Fall production: Too Much Zoom Makes All Of Us Go Blind. Too Much Zoom… is a student-devised project based on the ideas and tenets of Chicago’s Neo-Futurists, and facilitated by guest director David Horak. The project will be presented November 21-29 2020 via recorded and live zoom performances, with the possibility of some in-person performances within CUE and AHS Covid protocols.

Neo-Futurist theatre is known for being sincere and genuine, with the performers using their own names and their own lives as material for creating very brief but complete plays. Based on Neo-Futurist ideas and principles, an ensemble of student artists will create a hybrid online theatrical experience that will be unique every night. This collection of very short plays will be performed at breakneck speed and with the help of the audience, who will choose which short plays occur during each performance. Too Much Zoom… is a blend of audience participation, confessional theatre, new work, poetry, music and theatre.

CUE Mainstage productions feature students from any and every faculty on campus. As with all past productions, Too Much Light… will feature students pursuing majors in anything from sociology or music to biology or English literature.

Guest director David Horak has worked throughout Canada and the United States as a director, actor, and educator. He has taught acting, directing and movement for actors for over 15 years at such places as The University of Alberta, Concordia University of Edmonton, Red Deer University, and The Citadel Theatre’s Foote Theatre School. He is the founding Artistic Director of the award-winning Edmonton Actors Theatre that has produced 8 productions and garnered over 30 Sterling Award nominations, winning 14 awards for acting, design, production, playwriting and directing. He is also the new Artistic Director of The Freewill Shakespeare Festival and has directed two productions for the festival, The Comedy of Errors and The Winters Tale.
