Thunder Women’s Soccer Fall Short in Season Opener

Posted on: Sep 9, 2013

The defending National Silver Medalist Concordia Thunder Women's Soccer team got off to a rocky start in the 2013 season opener dropping a 5-1 decision to the Grande Prairie Wolves. With their masterful ball possession, what looked like a promising start for the Thunder quickly turned ugly at the 15 minute mark as Grande Prairie crossed a ball into the box and capitalized by rushing the net and picking up the rebound.  From there on, the Thunder were playing catch up as they were unable to regain their earlier form and were also unable to match the intensity and focus of the Wolves. “They were the better team on this day,” said new Thunder Head Coach Franco Imbrogno. “With a full week of practice ahead, we’ll be much better next weekend."  Rookie Forward Jill Sander had an admirable ACAC debut scoring the lone counter for the Thunder and earning Player of the Game honours in the process.  The Thunder Women will have a home double header this coming week as they play host to the King's Eagles on Friday, September 13th at 5 PM and then host NAIT on Saturday at Noon.
