Thunder Men’s Soccer Hit a Pair of ‘5-2’s in Weekend Action
Posted on: Sep 30, 2013The Concordia Men's Soccer team held a two game home stand this weekend with 'symmetrical' results, clipping the wings of the King's Eagles on Friday but falling prey to the MacEwan Griffins on Saturday. In Friday's match up, the Eagles took the lead early in the first half. As interim Head Coach Lionel Nji pointed out, "the goal was a wake-up call and the (Thunder) responded accordingly." Just before the end of the half, Concordia got the equalizer via the foot of first year Joseph Miah. Concordia started the second half better than the first and within 20 minutes, the Thunder had scored four additional goals. Adding to his single in the first half, Miah added two more to complete his hat-trick. With the triple counters, Miah ran his season tally to four. Pristen Fayia also added one to bring his tally to five goals. Through a penalty kick, Alfred Korfeh completed the Thunder's 5 goal performance. With the 5-2 victory, Concordia moved into 3rd place. Joseph Miah was voted the Player of the Game.
On Saturday at 2pm, Concordia once again took to their home pitch to face the MacEwan Griffins. This was a much stronger opposition but the team was determined to beat the Griffins in order to boost their chances of holding their play-off spot. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and at half time the Griffins led Concordia by 3-1, with the Concordia goal scored by Joseph Miah with an assist from Gopal Minhas. During the second half of the game, the Griffins added two more goals while Concordia Thunder talisman, Pristen Fayia scored for the Thunder to bring the final score to 5-2 in favour of the Griffins. Gopal Minhas was voted the Player of the Game. With his team-leading 6th counter of the season, first year stand out Pristen Fayia has scored in every game he has played this season and leads another first year teamate, Joseph Miah who now has 5. The Thunder will face the Griffins again next Saturday, October 5 at 2pm at Jasper Place Bowl.
