Thunder Men’s Soccer Hit 5’s in Weekend Split

Posted on: Sep 16, 2013

Week two of the ACAC Soccer season saw the Thunder Men's squad win with 5 goals one night and lose by 5 the next afternoon. On Friday,  the Thunder journeyed across the river to face the Kings Eagles.  Having lost to Grande Prairie on the first weekend of play, the Thunder were determined to start anew. It was an intense game with the Thunder attacking on multiple fronts and with multiple goal scoring chances in the first half.  Unfortunately, the guys were only able to capilize once and led 1-Nil at the half. Joseph Miah was the goal scorer with assist from Pristen Fayia. Coming out for the second half, Concordia scored their second goal within the first minutes of the resumption of play. This time, Pristen was the goal scorer with Andy Mottram and Dhee Govender each adding counters a short while later. Fayia grabbed the final goal of the game. Dhee Govender was named the Player of the Game for the second time in this young season. The final score was 5-1 in favour of the Thunder.
Fresh off their first vicotry of the season, the Thunder returned home Saturday to take on the NAIT Ooks. NAIT has always presented Concordia with a difficult challenge and on this day, it was particularly so as 3 of Concordia's starters were out with injuries and several of the players who did dress were not 100%. The visitors came out fired up and by the end of the first half, NAIT was up 4-Nil. During the second half of the game, the Thunder were unable to get any offensive momentum going while NAIT scored one more counter to end the game with a 5-Nil victory. Pristen Abraham was voted the Player of the Game. Thunder Captain James Sousa also played a key role in marshalling the defense of Concordia in the second half. Next week, the Thunder are on the road to Fort McMurray to face the Keyano College Huskies.
