Thunder Hockey Take a Point Off MacEwan

Posted on: Jan 13, 2014

The Thunder hockey team had two very tough battles against the MacEwan Griffins to start up their second term play.  Some costly mistakes while on the power play led to 2 shorthanded goals for MacEwan on Friday night and that turned out to be the difference in the game (4-2 loss).  Saturday night both teams played some excellent hockey and MacEwan, with their goalie pulled, managed to tie the game at 2 apiece with just over a minute to play in the game.  This was a bit of a heart breaker for the Thunder who really could have used a victory to lift their spirits a bit but it definitely was a strong step out of the mid-season slump that they have found themselves in.  Coach Peacocke commented that "it was obviously disappointing to give up the late goal, however we played very well tonight, meeting all the objectives we had set for the game.  A win would have been nice, but we will accept what we got and add it to the pile of adversity we've faced this year that continues to make us stronger.  We will be a team to reckon with come playoff time when everything is on the line."
The Thunder now have a rather unusual week in that they have a weekend bye but will be hosting the NAIT Ooks on Wednesday, January 15th at 5:15 pm to make up the game postponed from September 28th.
