Thunder Hockey Open Regular Season with a Split

This weekend the Concordia Thunder Hockey team opened their season with a home-and-home series against the SAIT Trojans. On Friday night at home the Thunder got off to a quick start with 3 goals in the first period from Nathan Smith and a pair from rookie defenseman Jordan Busch. In the second period the Thunder continued to push the pace and were able to add 3 more goals from Ian McLellan, Phil Dillon and Nathan Smith. The final score was 6 to 2 for the Thunder. First year goalie Tanner McCorriston picked up his first victory with a 42-save performance and Jordan Busch was named Player of the Game.

On Saturday the Trojans turned the tables on the Thunder in Calgary. Dallas McIntosh scored a first period goal to get the Thunder back into the game and the contest remained close until early in the 3rd period when the Trojans pulled away and ended up with a 6 to 1 victory. Next week the Thunder take on their cross town rivals from MacEwan. Friday night the Thunder play at the new Rogers Community Arena and Saturday night back home at Clareview. The puck drops at 7:00 PM for the Friday match up and at 8:15 PM at Clareview the following night.
