Thunder Hockey Edged Out of the Win Column by Griffins

Posted on: Jan 26, 2015

This weekend the Thunder dropped a pair of games to the MacEwan Griffins. Friday night at Clareview, the Thunder lost 5 to 1 to the Griffins, who are tied with NAIT for 2nd place in the ACAC Hockey standings. Penalty trouble hurt the Thunder as they gave up 3 power play goals to the crew from MacEwan. Tyler Stevenson scored the only goal shorthanded for the Thunder in the loss.
Saturday night The Thunder played a disciplined game and did not take a single minor penalty that would result in a shorthanded situation. Jordan Hoffman and Brett Richards scored for the Thunder and Nathan Smith added 2 assists. Despite multiple chances in the 3rd the Thunder couldn't solve the MacEwan Goaltender for the tying goal and lost 3 to 2.
Though not getting the results they desire, the Thunder have played the top ranked teams in the ACAC very tough in the past few weeks and hope to finally break through with some victories this weekend when they meet Portage College. The Thunder travel to Lac La Biche on Friday night for the opening match up before returning to Clareview for the home game on Saturday night at 8:15 PM.
