Thunder Golf Has Good Showing in Camrose in the ACAC North Regional

Posted on: Sep 21, 2015

The Thunder Golf team travelled to Camrose this past weekend to compete in the North Regional play down.  Coach Kevin MacAlpine was pleased with the team's showing but he knows they can work really hard the next couple of weeks and improve.  The team finished in 5th place behind MacEwan, Augustana, Red Deer and Medicine Hat.  After seeing the competition this weekend the Thunder should be battling for an ACAC team medal in Medicine Hat at the ACAC Championship.
The highlight after the first day was 2nd year player Connor Beeston, who fired a 75 with a double bogey on #17.  He was tied for 8th after Day 1 which was a solid showing.  However Connor struggled on Day 2, firing an 85.  On Day 2, the highlight of the day was veteran Brendan Algeo firing a 73 to follow up his disappointing 83 from the first day and finishing up tied for 19th overall.  Connor Dobberthien and Jason Wiwad fired a pair of respectful 80's both days.  Dylan Brown had a decent first round, shooting an 81.  All 5 of them, along with Nathan Smith, have qualified for the ACAC Championships.
Other members of the Golf team are Ryan McLaren and Beau Ferbey.  Overall, Coach MacAlpine was very pleased with the results of his team.  "We will work hard the next couple of weeks and hopefully bring back a medal from Medicine Hat."
