Considered by many to be the greatest play by the Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov, The Seagull written in 1895 dramatizes the romantic and artistic entanglements of four central figures: the famous middlebrow story writer Boris Trigorin, the fragile ingénue Nina, the fading actress Irina Arkadina, and her son the symbolist playwright Konstantin Tréplev.  The play is simultaneously comic and tragic as it explores the intertwined lives of these four artists and the lives of others who live and work at Arkadina’s country home.  Pam Gem’s translation captures the nuance of Chekhov’s characters and engages a contemporary audience in this classic play.

The production is directed by Caroline Howarth.  Costumes are by Betty Kolodziej with technical direction and lighting by Josiah Hiemstra.
