READ IN Week starts today

Posted on: Oct 7, 2019

“Books are windows to the world,” said Esther Starkman today, the driving force behind the creation of READ IN Week in 1990.  The official opening of this inspirational week took place at Esther Starkman School this morning with representatives from the City, government, as well as education and literary institutions from all over Edmonton.

READ IN Week is a city-wide, week long celebration of reading. This year, it is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

READ IN provides a forum to promote the importance of life-long reading, the value of reading aloud to children and youth, and the contributions to reading made by educational organizations such as school districts, libraries, and universities.

Find out more about READ IN on their website at www.readin.ca, or follow their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

We encourage you to take time out of your day to read with someone in your life, or volunteer to read at a local school during READ IN Week. It’s a rewarding experience for all!

Celebrate with stories!
