Dr. Wiebe talks superheroes with cancer on 630 CHED

CUE associate professor of English Dr. Reginald Wiebe joined 630 CHED’s Courtney Theriault on September 25 to talk about his latest book, The Cancer Plot: Terminal Immortality in Marvel’s Moral Universe.

Co-written with Dr. Dorothy Woodman, the book studies the cancer stories of some of Marvel’s most famous superheroes. Dr. Wiebe and Courtney discuss superheroes highlighted in the book, how cancer patients and survivors are represented in art and society, and how the disease impacts those in the Marvel universe.

The Cancer Plot: Terminal Immortality in Marvel’s Moral Universe was recently selected for The Association of University Presses’ 2024 Book, Jacket, and Journal Show in the Scholarly Typographic category. The book is one of 81 publications selected, with over 500 submissions across eight categories.
