The Information Systems Security and Assurance Management (ISSAM) department in Mihalcheon School of Management proudly invites you to the monthly InfoSec Seminar. The seminar series is open to anyone who is interested in security research and technologies, not only to Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) members.

High-level agenda:
Aaron Ferguson is WestJet’s Senior Manager of Governance, Risk and Compliance in Cybersecurity. The Governance, Risk and Compliance team provides the company with the framework for achieving regulatory compliance within IT and helping staff understand and manage Information, Security and Privacy risks.
Aaron has a background working in information Governance for over 15 years, spanning both the federal government for the National Energy Board of Canada, and the private sector at Enbridge and WestJet, focusing mostly on legal and regulatory compliance.
Aaron is excited to share his experience at the InfoSec Seminar and help the next generation of infosec professionals find their footing.
Dan Neal is Senior Advisor with the Governance, Risk and Compliance Team focusing on cyber security risk and privacy. Dan provides oversight and mentoring in risk management methodologies and standards and guidance on privacy protections from a regulatory and technical controls perspective.
Dan has extensive experience in IT spanning 35 years and is a long time WestJetter. Dan has held a number of positions in his tenure at WestJet including IT Infrastructure technical roles and leadership roles in system integration and cyber security.
Dan looking forward to taking part in the InfoSec Seminar to share my knowledge and maybe even inspire this group of upcoming IT professionals.
Meet our cybersecurity awareness analyst, Alice Kramer-McNish. She oversees WestJet’s cybersecurity awareness initiatives, including designing and running phishing simulation campaigns, writing and communicating Cyber-safety concepts to WestJetters, creating and running training programs, and contributing to annual compliance activities.
Alice holds a master’s in fine arts in Digital Media and has a diverse professional background that includes 10 years in the film industry, an instructor at the Art Institute and LaSalle College in Vancouver, a business analyst and a technical writer for security operations.
Alice is looking forward to meeting the with the university students at the Infosec Seminar to share her experience.
Alex Mabbott is Senior Advisor with the Governance, Risk and Compliance Team, and currently lead’s WestJet’s Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance activities. In order to facilitate card payments from guests, WestJet are required to maintain compliance with PCI DSS, and must undergo an annual external audit to validate this.
Before coming onboard to WestJet, Alex worked as a cybersecurity risk consultant, both here in Canada, and in the UK. Prior to that, Alex obtained a PhD in the field of Defense and Security, albeit physical security. It wasn’t until he left academia, he discovered the real fun was actually in cyber, and not in guns and body armour!
Having been previously nicknamed a professional student, given how long he was in education for, Alex is looking forward to connecting with the students to share any helpful insights he can.
Tolulope Mabo is an alumni of the MISAM program at Concordia University of Edmonton. She works as an Assessor at WestJet in the cybersecurity department where she leads WestJet’s Third-party Risk Management activities.
Prior to coming onboard to WestJet, Tolulope Mabo worked as a senior cybersecurity consultant at KPMG, an enterprise risk advisory consultant at Deloitte and a senior security architect at NTT Data. During her consulting years, Tolulope was opportune to work on various information system security and assurance projects across various industries where she applied the valuable learnings and skills gotten from the MISAM program at Concordia University of Edmonton. She still utilizes these valuable lessons and skills acquired from the MISAM program in her current role at WestJet.
As an alumni of Concordia University of Edmonton, Tolulope is delighted to connect with current students, her fellow alumni and other professionals at the infosec seminar on June 08, 2023.
