NAIT Ooks Get Two Home Court Wins off Thunder Women’s Volleyball
Posted on: Oct 27, 2014The Thunder Women's Volleyball team continued their regular season play over the past week as they played two matches at the NAIT Ooks gymnasium. On Thursday night, the team came out with some fire and played side out volleyball versus a tough team that attacks in all positions. With the opportunity to force a fifth set, the team lost their focus for a split second and the Ooks capitalized on it and won the match in four sets with scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-13, 25-23. Sarah Karasiuk was selected as the Player of the Match for the Thunder.
With a return match Saturday afternoon at the Ooks' gym, the Thunder came out quite flat. Unable to get a rhythm going in any aspect of their game, they fell in straight sets, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-16. Dayna Starke was the Player of the Match for the Thunder. Coach Turner commented on the matches this past week. "In Thursday's match, we gave ourselves plenty of opportunities to win the match but didn't capitalize on a couple of transition balls at key times and it hurt us in the end. When we clean up our side of the court and focus on every ball we will be fine. In Saturday's match we had a hard time getting out of a couple of rotations and the Ooks took advantage of that. If we can learn from our mistakes and continue to grow as a team, those mistakes will not happen. We will focus on making sure we challenge each other in drills and in competing to get better."
Coming up for the Thunder are a pair of home games this weekend with the Keyano Huskies invading the Ralph King. Matches go at 6 PM Friday night (October 31st) and again on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM. Come on out, wear your Halloween costume and cheer on the Thunder!
