Leonard Chesoo Honoured as 2019-20 ACAC Male Athlete of the Year

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Leonard Chesoo of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC Male Athlete of the Year sponsored by Konica Minolta. 

After picking up the ACAC and CCAA silver medal in his rookie campaign one year ago, Leonard entered the 2019-20 season with gold on his mind. Leonard managed to dominate the ACAC circuit in both Cross County Running and Indoor Track as he finished first in each individual event he entered including the ACAC Cross Country Championship and the CCAA Cross Country Championship to earn his first CCAA gold medal in his young running career. 

Concordia University of Edmonton’s Director of Athletics and Recreation, Joel Mrak, has seen tremendous growth in the confidence of the 2nd year phenome as he continues to adjust to life in Alberta stating “Leonard is one of those once in a lifetime athletes. When he first arrived, we knew that he was good and he made his presence in the ACAC and CCAA immediately felt. He just keeps getting better as an athlete, and also as a person as he has taken on a larger leadership role within the team. It is just fun to watch him compete and he is very deserving of this award.”

The second-year Bachelor of Science major from Iten, Kenya is starting to find his comfort zone at the Concordia University of Edmonton is eager to start training for the 2020-2021 ACAC running season.  

Leonard Chesoo was presented the 2019-20 ACAC Male Athlete of the Year award on April 27, 2020.
