Joel Mrak Takes the Reins as the new Athletics Department Administrator
Posted on: Jul 10, 2013Concordia University College of Alberta is pleased to announce that Mr. Joel Mrak will be stepping in as the new Athletics Department Administrator of the Concordia Thunder Athletics Program. Mrak will be taking over for long time Concordia Athletic Director Bernie Masterson who has retired after 38 years of service.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working with such a talented group of coaches and athletics staff members,” states Mrak. “Bernie achieved a tremendous amount during his tenure at Concordia and has set a very high standard for both athletic performance and academic success in our program. I am really looking forward to the challenge and continuing to build on that foundation of excellence.”
Concordia’s Dean of Students, Dr. Barbara van Ingen is also looking forward to having Mrak lead the Athletics department as the new ADA. “We are very pleased to have Joel join our senior admin staff and we are confident that he will provide the vision and leadership needed to take our Athletics program forward into a strong, stable and competitive future.”
Mrak comes into the ADA position with over 15 years of Athletics experience as a coach, administrator and educator. From 2008 to 2010, he was the Head Coach of the Men’s Volleyball team at Niagara College in Welland, Ontario and since 2011, has headed the Men’s Volleyball program at Concordia. He is transitioning from his position as the Executive Director of Judo Alberta in August.
Mrak received his undergraduate degree from the University of Lethbridge, earning a BA in Kinesiology with a focus on coaching studies and sport psychology. In 2010, he completed his Master’s Degree in Sport Management at Brock University and is currently working on his PhD in Coaching/Sport and Leisure Organizations at the University of Alberta.
