Jekyll and Hyde Performance Leaves Men’s Basketball 4-2

Posted on: Nov 2, 2015

There are weekends where it all comes together and there are weekends where it doesn’t… then there are the weekends where two different teams show up. This was one of those weekends for the Thunder MBB squad.  After jumping out to an 11-3 lead over the Augustana Vikings on Friday night, things went south in a hurry and before they knew it, the Thunder had dropped an 83-61 decision to the visitors. “We weren’t good,” stated Coach Reagan Wood after the loss. “Augustana came in and played really hard and we let them walk all over us.  I can handle a loss but a poor effort is unacceptable.  There are no easy wins in our division and we got handed a tough loss because we got out worked.” Statistical leaders for the Thunder were Nate Wojcicki with 15 points and 9 rebounds, Jason Jones Jr. with 14 points and 3 rebounds, with Adam Johnson rounding out the double digit scorers registering 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Travelling to Camrose Saturday night the Thunder sought redemption for their loss on Friday and they would find it in a superb defensive effort holding the Vikings to 33 points through 3 quarters and winning the game by a final score of 76-56. “That’s the effort I expect on a daily basis,”  remarked Coach Wood “We can be very good at both ends of the floor and tonight it was defense that carried us until the offense got going.  We had some really good stretches in the 2nd and 3rd quarters where we kept Augustana off the scoresheet.  I hope we can build off that effort and carry it into our next game.” Jason Jones Jr. had a huge night matching his career high with 32 points.  Artez Scharer had a nice line with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.  Nate Wojcicki chipped in 6 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Thunder now enjoy a much needed bye week after which they will take on the King’s Eagles in a home and home series November 13th and 14th.
