Busy Weekend Keeps Thunder Hockey in the Playoff Hunt
Posted on: Feb 10, 2014After three grueling games this past weekend, the Thunder Hockey team still has their work cut out for them as they did not manage to work their way into the playoffs just yet. The Thunder are now chasing Portage and while they didn't lose any ground to them this weekend (they remain 1 point behind), they now only have six games left to secure the final playoff position. On Friday and Saturday the team faced off against the very determined and underrated Keyano Huskies and both games ended up in overtime ties. While it appeared that Concordia had control of both games, a few untimely and costly mistakes resulted in the puck being deposited in the back of their net. The game on Sunday against the powerful NAIT Ooks was quite different in that the Ooks really had control throughout much of the game with the Thunder just batting to survive…which they did quite well. Despite a huge territorial advantage for the Ooks – coming as a result of them executing their game plan to perfection – the Thunder managed to keep the game close on the score board and battled to the bitter end, losing by a score of 4 to 2. The team now faces the SAIT Trojans this coming weekend with another opportunity to earn their way into a playoff position. The home game goes at 8:15 pm on Friday night (February 14th) at Glengarry Arena.
