Big Road Win Moves Thunder Men’s Basketball to the North Division Lead
Posted on: Nov 18, 2013On Friday, the Thunder Men's Basketball team headed down to Calgary to take on the St. Mary’s Lightning in a key 2 point game. Hot shooting by the Lightning early had them up 8 on the Thunder after the first quarter and they held that edge into halftime. A strong 3rd quarter from the Thunder saw them equalize the contest at 66 after 30 minutes. Continuing their solid team play, the Thunder would take the lead and push through to an 89-83 win, collecting a very important 2 points. The Thunder were led by Jamaal Bucknor, who played his best game in a Thunder uniform going 13 for 18 from the floor, totaling 30 points while collecting 12 rebounds, almost rounding out a triple double with adding 7 assists. Kerel Pryce also played his best game of this Thunder career tallying 17 points highlighted by a spectacular open court slam in the first half. Also key in the win were Dallas Wright with 9 points and 7 rebounds, Dave Shantz with 8 and 8 and Chris Stoltz coming in off the bench with 9 points and 4 rebounds.
“(It was) a great team win tonight,” stated Coach Wood. “We got the ball to the right places and took advantage of the mismatches we had. Jamaal was fantastic tonight, but any time someone has a game like that there is no doubt that unselfish team basketball is being played. Everyone bought into what we wanted to do tonight and by being persistent with it we were able to overcome some great shooting performances by a very good St Mary’s squad.”
Next up, the Thunder will welcome the Lethbridge Kodiaks to the RKAC this coming Friday in another critical 2 point game. Tip-off is at 8 PM.
