"The decision, earlier this month, to close the investigation into the disappearance of the eminent American mathematician Boris Weisfeiler in Chile in 1985 is a very disturbing development, and we, along with many members of the international mathematics community, join with the Chilean Mathematics Society in urging the Chilean government that it be re-opened, so that a full investigation can be made and justice done." — AMS president Robert Bryant
