Thunder Women’s Volleyball Fall to the Wolves
Posted on: Feb 22, 2016The Women's Volleyball team wrapped up their regular season play over the weekend as they hosted the Grande Prairie Wolves in two home court matches. Playing one of the top teams in the Conference, the ladies came out hard in the first set on Friday and challenged the Wolves but unforced errors did them in and they lost the set 25-23. After the first set the team lost focus in their first contact and although they tried to stay with the Wolves, the team struggled and went down to defeat with scores of 25-7 and 25-18. Dayna Starke was the Player of the Match for the Thunder.
In Saturday's afternoon match, the ladies showed signs of fighting with Grande Prairie but the Wolves showed why they are a favorite to win the league title as they defeated the Thunder in straight sets 25-15, 25-15 and 25-17. Tianna Smith was the Player of the Match for the Thunder.
Coach Turner's comments from the match and season: "The weekend was a chance to get all players in and see what they have for the upcoming season. Although we struggled to get a league win this year, I am very proud of this team for their commitment to the program and the steps we have taken to bring the women's volleyball team at Concordia to the level that it needs to get to, to be successful. The individuals that we have on this team that are returning had the chance to see what the level of volleyball is in the ACAC and know how hard they need to work over the summer months to be successful. I know we can get there and we as a coaching staff are excited to see this team and ladies succeed."
