Thunder Hockey Lose Two Close Clashes to the Vikings
Posted on: Feb 1, 2016This weekend the Thunder Men's Hockey team faced the 2nd ranked Augustana Vikings. Friday night's home game at Clareview was an entertaining affair with the teams trading chances in a high paced game. In what has become a painfully familiar situation for the Thunder, they trailed 4 to 3 with less than a minute to play. With the net empty, the Thunder could not tie the game and the Vikings added an empty netter to make the final 5 to 3. Second year forward Phil Dillon was excellent for Concordia as he put up a 3 point night.
Saturday night the Thunder travelled to Camrose for a rematch with the Vikings. The game remained deadlocked until midway through the 2nd period when the Vikings slipped a puck into the Thunder net. Concordia pushed to tie the game in the third period but unfortunately ran out of a gas and allowed a second goal with 2 minutes left and lost the game 2 – 0. Connor Dobberthien was spectacular in the loss with 49 saves. Despite the losses, the Thunder competed hard with an excellent and experienced Vikings team.
The Thunder have a much needed bye this coming weekend and look to return a healthy line up when they host the Briercrest Clippers in back to back games in two weeks.
