Thunder Women’s Volleyball Fall to Huskies in Season Opener
Posted on: Oct 19, 2015This past weekend the Women's Volleyball team opened up their 2015-16 regular season hosting the Keyano Huskies from Ft. McMurray. On Friday, the Thunder came out "very flat with no energy and no commitment to fight for every point," stated Head Coach Trever Turner. The Thunder went down to defeat quite handily, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-15. Player of the Match was Rookie Madi Masterson who came off the bench and added some energy when she was on the court.
In Saturday's afternoon tilt, the ladies showed much better resilience and put up a better match but unforced errors – that have plagued them since day one – cost them the sets and they went down again in three straight, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18. Dayna Starke was the Player of the Match as her net presence was strong throughout the day. "As a coaching staff, we set high expectations for our student-athletes both on and off the court," declared Coach Turner. "This past weekend we did not reach those expectations and it was very disappointing. We have some very strong student-athletes that want to succeed but we did not push the opposition this weekend the way we as a coaching staff know we can. We will continue to get better and strive to give 100% each day we walk on the court. The key to our success will be our first contact and we struggled with that all weekend so we will work on that being better this week for the upcoming weekend matches."
Those matches will be against the Lakeland Rustlers with the Thunder heading to Lloydminster on Friday before coming back for the home match on Saturday night. The first serve goes at 6 PM.
