Thunder Women’s Volleyball Take on Lakeland in Season Opener
Posted on: Oct 28, 2013The ACAC season has begun for the Thunder Women's Volleyball team as they faced off this past weekend against last season's CCAA Silver Medalists, the Lakeland Rustlers. Kicking off the season at home on Friday, the Thunder started strong but were overwhelmed by the strength that the Rustlers brought to bear, losing in straight sets 25-16, 25-12 and 25-17. One bright spot was rookie Rachel Bouma who earned the season's first Player of the Game award. On Saturday, the Thunder travelled to Lloydminister to take on the Rustlers in their home gym. Saturday's match was much more competitive and saw the Thunder hanging within a few points of their hosts throughout most of the four set contest. After dropping the first two games, the Thunder mounted a comeback in the third set but were unable to sustain their momentum and lost the fourth set and the match 25-22, 25-21, 20-25 and 25-15. Veteran Power Bailey Magas won Player of the Game. Next up for the Thunder is a rare Thursday night game with the Augustana Viking coming to town. The Halloween night tilt starts at 6 PM.
