InfoSec Seminar – November 2025

The Information Systems Security and Assurance Management (ISSAM) Department in Mihalcheon School of Management proudly invites you to the monthly InfoSec Seminar. The seminar series is open to anyone who is interested in security research and technologies, not only to Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) members.

Talk Description

The Complex Relationship between Cybersecurity and Fraud:  Is Fusion Inevitable?

In this seminar, Brent will talk about the following points:

  • Current State of Cybersecurity; Current state of Fraud (brief history of each and how we got here)
  • Changing Tides:  Changes in criminal tactics leading to changes in customer and regulatory expectations; driving (forcing?) collaboration
  • Crystal Ball:  What does the future hold for these disciplines?

Speaker – Brent Whittington

Brent has over 25 years’ experience in fraud and cyber risk management built on a foundation of enterprise technology process, delivery and operational excellence.  As the Sr. Director of Enterprise Fraud and Fusion at Ally Financial, he built and operated ground-up Fraud Management and Credible Challenge programs and strategies. He is a recognized industry leader, expert, panelist, and speaker across multiple disciplines of Fraud and Cyber strategy.  Brent has been an integral member of the industry’s most well-attended program and conference committees where he has worked across industry peers to bring relevant content to the industry. Most recently he has built innovative, multi-generational fraud management strategies supporting Financial Services, Fintech, and Travel industries.
