Hockey

Thunder men’s hockey is gearing up for another exciting season with 24 regular season games ahead and a race into the 2024 playoffs. Last season, the league was tight heading into playoffs, and we saw the Thunder battle fiercely making it to the quarterfinals.

The 23/24 season will kick off on October 20th with a home game against their 2023 playoff rival, the Red Deer Kings. The home opener will be at the Clareview Rec Centre with a 7 PM puck drop. Thunder will then follow them south the following day to play again at the Gary Harris Canada Games Centre.

The Thunder will take on the NAIT Ooks for a battle of Edmonton, on October 27th and 28th. CUE Thunder will then hit the road for a weekend series in Saskatchewan against the Briercrest Clippers, on November 10th and 11th. They’ll return home to play the Portage Voyageurs (Nov 17/18th) before finishing off the fall semester against the SAIT Trojans.

Volleyball

The Concordia Thunder Men and Women’s volleyball are set to compete in 19 regular season games with matchups against the ACAC North and South division. Teams will look to secure their ticket to the ACAC Championships, hosted by the Lethbridge Kodiaks.

The countdown is on for game one, October 13th, against the Lakeland Rustlers on home court, with the Saturday game in Rustlers’ territory. Thunder will match up against the NAIT Ooks, the Keyano Wolves, Old’s Broncos, SAIT Trojans, RDP Kings/Queens, and will finish the first half of the season against the TKU Eagles’, on November 24th and 25th.

Soccer

The Concordia Thunder Men and Women’s soccer teams will compete in 12 regular season matches and push to secure their spot in the ACAC Championships right here in Edmonton.

The Women’s and Men’s teams are off to a great start winning both their games against Lakeland College September 10. They will be returning to home turf on September 16th against the NWP Wolves. On Sunday, the 17th they will be taking on the NAIT Ooks in a battle of Edmonton at the NAIT field. The following weekend will kick off with another away game against the Kings’ Eagles, followed by a Saturday matchup against the Portage Voyageurs back on home turf.

To finish off the month of September, Thunder will travel up to Fort McMurray for a weekend series against the Keyano Huskies. Thunder will return home for the next three games facing the Kings’ Eagles on October 6th, Lakeland Rustlers on the 7th, and NAIT Ooks on the 14th, all for the second time in the season.

Cross Country Running

The Cross Country Running team is off to a dashing start. The Thunder hosted the Cross-Country Running Grand Prix on September 9. Next up, the runners will head south to compete in Calgary hosted by the SAIT Trojans on September 16th. They will then head to the third Grand Prix of the season on September 30th in Lethbridge, hosted by the Kodiaks, and the fourth and final Grand Prix in Augustana on October 14th. Runners will then compete for the ultimate title in the ACAC Cross-Country Championships, hosted by the Lethbridge Kodiaks, on October 28th.

Golf

The Thunder Golf season kicked off with the North Regionals here in Edmonton, at the Jagare Ridge Golf Course on September 9th and 10th. Jagare Ridge is known for “Mountain Golf, In the City”, and will be an exciting challenge. They will then head to Medicine Hat on September 17th and 18th to compete in the South Regionals at the Desert Blume Golf Course. This will surely be a shift in the elements from mountain to desert, as golfers push their abilities before the championship round. The ACAC Golf Championships are taking place at the Alberta Springs Golf Resort in Red Deer, where golfers will put it all on the line to take home the prestigious championship title.

Badminton

The Badminton season begins back on Concordia’s home court for the first tournament, on November 19th. After the winter break, athletes will head south to Calgary for tournament #2 hosted by the SAIT Trojans. The third and final tournament before the finals will take place at the Kings’ University, hosted by the Eagles. After three crucial tournaments, badminton athletes will then compete for the ultimate title in the ACAC Championships, hosted by the NAIT Ooks, on February 17th and 18th.

Curling

The Thunder Curling teams will look to defend their 2023 championship titles, starting off in Vermillion with tournament #1 hosted by the Lakeland Rustlers on November 24th-26th. They will come back from the winter break for the second tournament of the season, hosted by the NAIT Ooks, January 19th-21st. Heading into the finals, Thunder will compete on February 23rd-25th in the ACAC Championships, hosted by the SAIT Trojans.

Indoor Track

The Thunder Indoor Track teams will head to the races beginning in January, with the first Grand Prix hosted by your Thunder on the 27th. They will then head to Red Deer to compete in the second Grand Prix on February 10th. The ACAC Championships will take place once again at the U of A Butterdome, where our top racers will compete for the coveted championship title, on March 16th and 17th.
