Bridging the gap: Mitigating cyber risks in the insurance sector
Cyber threat landscape is continuously evolving and this had led to an exponential growth in the cyber attacks. With acceleration in digital transformation, financial and insurance institutions rely heavily on digital channels to offer new products and deliver best services to their customers. This has introduced new attack vectors and cyber risks making these industries an easy target for myriad of cyberattacks. The insurance industry is particularly vulnerable because, among other things, they have in their possession valuable personal data of customers and financial assets. This presentation will cover the cyber risks faced by insurance sector from both internal and external sources, including third parties. It will also explore two real-life case studies to understand the security considerations for insurance companies and how to mitigate the security risks.

About the Speaker: Parul Khanna
Parul Khanna is a seasoned cyber security professional with specialization in risk management, incident response, cloud security and software engineering. She has a master’s degree in information system security management from Canadian University and holds CISSP, CCSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC, CDPSE and CCSK designations. Previously, Parul has worked as a core team member of Cybersecurity Operations Centre at one of Canada’s Big 5 bank.
She is a subject matter expert on risk assessments, security control improvements and security solutions. In addition to her professional career, Parul has published a research paper on Doxing at an International Conference on Information Security, Privacy and Forensics held in Montreal. Parul has also served as a board member for the (ISC)2 Toronto Chapter. She enjoys mentoring aspiring professionals and is a course instructor for cybersecurity courses at university based in Toronto. Parul also loves to volunteer her time for the WiCyS (Women in Cybersecurity) community and is a passionate public speaker at cybersecurity conferences.
