Happy Chinese Language Day
Posted on: Apr 20, 2022The Chinese language is one of the oldest languages in the world and is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
In celebration of the 13th United Nations Chinese Language Day and the completion of the Chinese HSK Levels 1-4 language classes through the Office of Extension and Culture, the Centre for Chinese Studies at CUE held a “Chinese Character Flowers” event on April 12th.
During the event participants selected one of their favorite Chinese characters, wrote it on a paper plate, shared the reason why they chose that character, and told a story between the participants and their special characters. Their characters are displayed in the form of “hua” (花,means flower in Chinese language).
April 20, 2022 also falls into Guyu, a solar term in the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar, which means grains growing in the spring rain. The Centre for Chinese Studies wishes that this flower of Chinese characters would bring spring and sunshine to the CUE community.
Although the Winter 2022 term is soon coming to a close, you can still learn Chinese characters and the wisdom at the Chinese Corner, located on the 2nd floor of the Allan Wachowich Centre, outside AW 207.
