Dr. Tim Loreman reappointed for second term as President and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University of Edmonton

EDMONTON, Alberta — Dr. Tim Loreman has been reappointed for a second term as President and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE). First installed on January 1, 2017, President Loreman’s transformational leadership style and bold vision for the future has propelled CUE forward towards realizing its potential as Canada’s pre-eminent small university.
“On behalf of the Board of Governors, I’d like to thank President Loreman for his dedication to CUE’s students, faculty, staff, and community,” said Russ Morrow, Chair of CUE’s Board of Governors (BOG). “Under his leadership, CUE has built substantial momentum and, despite the ongoing pandemic, has continued to grow and evolve into a premier post-secondary institution. We are happy that he has accepted a second term and look forward to what lies ahead.”
With this announcement, President Loreman’s term as President and Vice-Chancellor will continue through to 2027. He previously served as Vice-President Academic and Provost before succeeding Dr. Gerald Krispin to become CUE’s eighth president.
“I am honoured by this vote of confidence from the BOG,” said President Loreman. “I am proud of what we have accomplished as a community over the past four years and I look forward to building on the progress we have made together. The mandate I have been given is bold and ambitious, and I am confident that, together, we will be able to achieve incredible success.”
Throughout his first term, President Loreman led by example, prioritizing the needs of students and demonstrating empathy through his interactions inside and outside of the CUE community. He has focused on student engagement, internationalization, building corporate and community partnerships, and creating centres of research and innovation to advance emerging areas of opportunity like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and renewable energy.
“President Loreman has built a reputation for being honest, straightforward, and, most importantly, kind,” said Morrow. “He has built support within the university and externally, serving as a true ambassador for CUE’s mission and demonstrating the values that we strive to instill in our graduates. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, his leadership has been tested, and he has continued to demonstrate character and encourage care across the campus community.”
In his second term, President Loreman will focus on areas such as inclusion, Indigenous engagement, sustainability, and student support, in addition to setting the conditions for CUE to emerge from the ongoing pandemic and establish a new normal that works for, and prioritizes the needs of, the campus community.
President Loreman joined CUE in 2003 as a professor in the Faculty of Education. He is known globally for his work in inclusive education and pedagogy, and he holds a Diploma in Teaching from Monash University, Graduate Diploma in Special Education from Deakin University, Master of Education from Deakin University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Education Psychology from Monash University.
