Thunder Women’s Volleyball Split Matches in Preseason Play

Posted on: Sep 21, 2015

Over the past weekend the Thunder Women's Volleyball team played two exhibition matches versus Keyano College and Augustana. In the first match versus Keyano, the team came out a little flat in the first set and the Huskies took advantage of it winning 25-23. In the next set, the women came out strong with their 1st contact and controlled the play winning 25-21. The teams split the next two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-19, pushing the match to a fifth set. In that concluding frame, the Thunder put up a strong block and neutralized the Huskies' middle hitters and won 15-9.
In the night match versus the hometown Vikings, the team started off poorly and could not sustain any level of consistency and lost in straight sets, 25-13, 25-13 and 25-18. Commenting on the weekend's matches, Coach Turner had this to say. "We continue to make improvements in our team play, but we still have a ways to go in our consistency and learning to compete at this level. We have some athletic ladies and once we realize that we need to be mentally tough from start to finish, we won't give up points in bunches that we did this past weekend."
The team continues their exhibition schedule this upcoming weekend as they host a four-team tournament at the Ralph King Athletic Centre.
