Thunder Men’s Basketball Close Out Regular Season; Prepare for Playoffs

Posted on: Mar 2, 2015

The 2014-15 ACAC Men’s Basketball regular season came to a close this past weekend with the Thunder making a trip up to Grande Prairie to face the GPRC Wolves.  With their playoff berth and position already sealed, the Thunder split with the Wolves, dropping the Friday night contest 87-80 and bouncing back with a 76-67 win on Saturday.
“We wanted to play a certain way to close out the season and begin to get ready for the playoffs,” remarked Coach Reagan Wood.  “Friday was somewhat disappointing in that we didn’t get things going until the middle of the third and by then we had dug a hole that was a little too big to get out of.  Having said that, GP shot the ball very well and to comeback as much as we did in spite of that, was good.  Everyone in our league is really good at home and you can’t fall too far behind.  Saturday we played a much better defensive game which allowed us to work through some shooting struggles on offense but we scored when we needed to and finished the regular season the right way.” The Thunder finish the regular season with a 15 and 9 record, good enough for 2nd in the ACAC North.
The Thunder will now prepare to face the #3 seed from the South division, the Medicine Hat Rattlers in the quarterfinals of the ACAC Conference Tournament which begins this Thursday at Keyano College in Ft. McMurray.  Game time for the Thunder will be 6 PM on March 5th.  Without any crossover play this season, this will be the first meeting between these teams since the play-in round last year, wherein the Thunder grabbed a 91-83 win over the Rattlers.  The men from Medicine Hat College come into the playoffs with a 16 and 8 record and are ranked #13 in the CCAA National rankings.
Good Luck Thunder!
