Thunder Indoor Track Teams Rake in the Medals at the AB Indoor Games
Posted on: Feb 21, 2017The Thunder Indoor Track teams raked in the medals at this weekend’s Alberta Indoor Games held at the University of Alberta. In the Ladies 1500m, the Thunder women took 4 of the top 5 spots led by Ana Zulic in 2nd place, Elise Nawrocki in 3rd place, Brynn deVries in 4th place and Shelby Edgar in 5th place. Zulic, Nawrocki and deVries all ran new personal bests for the distance. In the Men’s 1500m, Ian Lee finished in 3rd place, also running a new personal best.
In the ladies 600m Mienna Starosielski continued her stellar rookie season, finishing 4th overall and inching closer to the school record with a new personal best time. Haley Dunwoodie and Baylee Frissell were next across the line for the Thunder, finishing in 5th and 6th. In the Men’s 600m Keith Spruyt was the top Thunder man across the line in 6th place with Brad Agnew in 7th, Mohammed Abdullahi in 8th and Jackson Murrell in 9th.
On Day 2 of the meet in the Ladies 3k, Elise Nawrocki was the sole Thunder competitor and managed another personal best for the 2nd time, finishing 2nd overall. In the Men’s 3k, Ian Lee finished in 3rd spot. In the Ladies 1k, Anna Zulic made it 2 for 2 with another personal best time and helped drag Baylee Frissell to a new personal best time in the process. They finished in 4th and 5th places. In the Men’s 300m, all of the Thunder runners ran new personal bests led by David Bargiel in 10th, Keith Spruyt in 12th, Brad Agnew in 13th and Jackson Murrell in 14th. Bargiel, Spruyt and Agnew all doubled back an hour later with Ian Lee to finish in 2nd place in the 4x400m, improving the team’s best time for the season by nearly 10 seconds.
The Indoor track teams will take next weekend off before heading down to Lethbridge to compete in the 2017 ACAC Indoor Track Championships. Last year the men’s team took the overall title while the ladies ended up in 3rd place behind MacEwan and Lethbridge.
