Thunder Hockey Sweep the Portage Voyageurs

Posted on: Feb 2, 2015

The Thunder Hockey team had a very successful weekend as they earned 'the sweep' with a pair of victories over the Portage Voyageurs. On Friday night in Lac La Biche, the Thunder beat the Voyageurs 5 to 4. Freshman Nathan Smith scored the winner on a breakaway with just 42 seconds left in the 3rd period. Filiph Bystrom scored a pair of goals and was named the Player of the Game for the Thunder. Joel Wilson stood tall for the Thunder, turning away 41 shots in the victory.
On Saturday night, the Thunder earned their first victory at Clareview Arena in convincing fashion. Jordan Hoffman and Tyler Stevenson both collected 3 points in the 7 to 3 win. A highlight of the game was first year Forward Phil Dillon scoring his first career ACAC goal. Dillon – who missed the first 18 games of the season due to a broken leg – was also named Player of the Game.
Next weekend the Thunder look to continue their winning ways as they take on the Augustana Vikings. Friday night they play in Camrose and Saturday night they return home to Clareview to face the Vikings.  The puck drops at 8:15 PM for the home game.
