Thunder Curling Win Gold at ACAC Championships

Posted on: Feb 29, 2016

This past weekend the Concordia Thunder Mixed Curling team travelled to St. Paul and came away with ACAC Gold at the 2015-16 Championships. Skip Adrienne Maschmeyer led her team to a 2W-1L record after the round robin to take #2 ranking and move into the 1 vs 2 page game. A win over RDC in the page game gave Concordia its berth to the Gold Medal game, facing the Olds Broncos. The Thunder got off to a shaky start, finding themselves down 3-0 after the first end.  But led by some terrific shot making by their Skip, the team battled hard throughout the entire game resulting in an 11 to 7 victory after 7 ends. "I'm very proud of this team," beamed Head Coach Travis Jones. "They all came together and brought Concordia into the ACAC curling world as a competitive contender. Adrienne and (Third) Jason (Ferster) helped lead their team all year. I could not ask for a better group of student athletes."
Records were set as Skip Maschmeyer is the first ever female Skip to win the Mixed Gold Medal and the first Mixed player to ever win Female Player of the Year. Two of her team mates were also recognized for their outstanding play as Konnor Wood was awarded All-Conference status as a Lead and Jason Ferster the same as a Third.
Well done Thunder!
