Dutch Canadian Club Provides $65,000 Donation in Support of Athletics and Biomedical Research at CUE

The Dutch Canadian Club has made a $65,000 donation to Concordia University of Edmonton, supporting the CUE Thunder Women’s Soccer Team and biomedical research led by Dr. Matthew Churchward.

“We are incredibly thankful for the Dutch Canadian Club’s vision and investment in CUE,” said Adam Trzebski, Manager of Community Relations at CUE. “Whether helping our student athletes reach new heights or equipping our young researchers with cutting edge tools in the lab, these contributions will create lasting opportunities across our university.”

The donations were presented on July 20 — $35,000 to the Women’s Soccer Team and $30,000 to Dr. Churchward’s research into inflammation and the rejection of electrical implants after spinal cord injuries.

Supporting CUE Thunder Athletics

The donations to the Women’s Soccer team will be used to support them with access to more specialized training facilities, year-round training environments, and additional resources for the student athletes in support of their overall well-being. 

Supporting Research Science

Because most spinal cord implants must remain in the patient for life, and are often needed by younger adults, reducing inflammation and implant rejection is a critical area of research. 

This generous donation will be used to purchase state of the art equipment and support  undergraduate research assistants who work with Dr. Churchward in his lab.  

Concordia University of Edmonton, Dr. Matthew Churchward, and the CUE Thunder Women’s Soccer Team greatly appreciate the support and donations from the Dutch Canadian Club and the impact this support will have on CUE students.
