The Interdisciplinary Research Cluster on Linguistics and Language Education invites the CUE community to attend their upcoming virtual presentation, The Transformation of Solitary Confinement in Canada.

In November 2019, federal prisons in Canada adopted a new correction model of incarceration referred to as “Structure Intervention Unit” (SUIs, in the plural form) to comply with Bill C83, which abolished solitary confinement.

During this noontime presentation, Dr. Marcella Siqueria Cassiano, adjunct professor at Memorial University and lecturer in criminology and sociology, will discuss the implications of SUIs to prison staff, prisoners and prison dynamics.
