Concordia University of Edmonton names new Dean of Science

The office of the Vice-President Academic & Provost is delighted to announce that, effective July 1, 2023, Dr. Cecilia Bukutu will be new Dean of the Faculty of Science at Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE).

Dr. Bukutu holds a MPhil and PhD in Epidemiology from University of Cambridge, UK. Prior to joining CUE, Cecilia held several senior leadership and management roles including Managing Director in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta (UAlberta) and served as Associate Director in the Child Youth Data Lab at PolicyWise for Children and Families.

At CUE, Dr. Bukutu was the inaugural Director of Institutional Research and Program Development and worked with faculty in the development and cyclical review of academic programs. More recently Dr. Bukutu has been the Director of Public Health and under her leadership CUE’s public health programs experienced substantial growth.

Dr. Bukutu is active in teaching, research and service at CUE. She has served on many internal committees as well as external committees including the City of Edmonton’s Environmental Advisory Committee, and Edmonton Public Schools’ Equity Advisory Committee. Dr. Bukutu is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UAlberta.  

Dr. Bukutu has been recipient of many successful grants (i.e., NSERC, PHAC, SSHRC, CIHR, Seed grants) that have supported her public health and knowledge translation research collaborations within CUE and across institutions. Examples of these collaborations include the VacciNation Campaign, the NSERC funded Speak Science Simply Program and the very recently federal funded multi-institutional Building Healthy Communities Project.  Dr. Bukutu has received several awards including the UAlberta Presidents Dare to Discover: Connecting Communities Team Award and CUE’s Gerald S. Krispin Research Award.
