MOU between CUE and Guangzhou University Established

President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Tim Loreman visited Guangzhou University in China on November 13, 2018.  Guangzhou University’s President Minghai Wei and Vice President Xingpeng Guo hosted a meeting with President Loreman.  Other representatives present from Guangzhou University included the Director of the International Office, Dean of School of Education, Dean of School of International Education, Associate Dean of School of Computer Science and Education Software, Deputy Director of Graduate School and International Office staff.

The discussion between CUE and Guangzhou University included teacher education, information technology, extension and culture, as well as student and faculty mobility. CUE’s strength in teacher education and inclusive education raised strong interest among Guangzhou university faculties.

Guangzhou, also known as Canton, is the capital and most populous city of the Province of Guangdong in southern China. Guangdong Province’s GDP has always been the top 1 among all the provinces in China. It is about 120 km north-northwest of Hong Kong and 145 km north of Macau, Guangzhou has a history of over 2,200 years and was a major terminus of the maritime Silk Road, and continues to serve as a major port and transportation hub, as well as one of China’s three largest cities, after Shanghai and Beijing.

Guangzhou University is a comprehensive university under the support of the government of both the Guangdong Province and the Guangzhou City. Guangzhou University has 27 schools and enjoys a comprehensive variety of disciplines including philosophy, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, economics, administration and arts. These 27 schools enroll approximately 34,000 undergraduate and graduate students and employ almost 2,000 highly recognized and skilled faculty.

The university has undertaken numerous key projects and established a number of research platforms including the Earthquake Engineering Research & Test Center, Cyberspace Advanced Technology Research Institute, Computing Technology Research Institute, Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, Dawan District Environmental Research Institute, Guangzhou Development Research Institute, Guangzhou International Finance Research Institute and Human Rights Research Institute.
