Invitation to Paywall: The Business of Scholarship Screening

On behalf of MacEwan University Library, CUE Library invites you to a free screening of Paywall: The Business of Scholarship.
- When: Monday, October 22 at 3:30PM-5PM
- Where: MacEwan University, City Centre Campus, CN Theatre (room 5-142).
“Paywall: The Business of Scholarship is a documentary that focuses on the need for open access to research and science, questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion a year that flows into for-profit academic publishers, examines the 35 to 40 per cent profit margin associated with top academic publisher Elsevier, and looks at how that profit margin is often greater than some of the most profitable tech companies like Apple, Facebook and Google.”
- A brief discussion, facilitated by MacEwan’s Sandy Stift, will follow the film’s screening.
