From Tim’s desk: CUE’s top priorities for this fall

Posted on: Sep 20, 2022

Welcome to my new blog.

CUE’s administration is working hard to improve communication throughout our university and externally. This requires communicating through a variety of platforms, including social media, our website, the media, information postings, email, and in-person opportunities. I have personally engaged in most of these methods of communication over the years, and have decided to add an occasional blog to my repertoire. While I enjoy personal conversations with each of you, there is only so much time, and so I hope that my blog is a way for us to connect and start conversations.

I am calling it occasional because it will not be published according to a schedule. I’ll write a post as I feel it is necessary and useful for our community; when I have some news to convey or information that matters to our community. Over time you can expect me to cover a range of topics, my goal being to enhance understanding of decisions made and to contextualize things that are happening at CUE.

For this first post I’d like to address what I see as being CUE’s top priorities for this fall. These fall into two areas and include work on a new Academic Plan, and the continued implementation of Reconnecting CUE 2022. The work we do in these areas, if successful, will help to stabilize our university as we emerge from a time of rapid change and anxiety resulting from the pandemic.

With our current Academic Plan set to expire in 2023, a renewal is in order. We can choose to build a new one from scratch, which is a rather large task, or there is another path. We can renew our current plan by including new benchmarks and making other modifications to update it. This is something you’ll be hearing more about from Dr. van Ingen, who will be leading a collaborative process towards writing this new or renewed plan. Ultimately, a new Academic Plan will need to be approved by GFC and the Board.

Over the summer, our ‘Reconnecting CUE 2022: A Plan Forward’ document was released. It is a plan for moving forward that was based on listening sessions that were held in the spring. We have taken this seriously, and if you review the document you will see that we have already implemented a great deal of what we said we wanted to do. We will continue with this important work. In my opinion, getting our relationships back on track will be central to our success, both in the short and long term. I was happy to visit with many of you during the recent informal coffee meet and greets in my office. Thank you for stopping by.

Before I wrap this up, I also want to share that I’m looking forward to cheering on our Thunder athletes as much as I can this academic year. I hope you will join me and also encourage everyone to wear their CUE gear on Fridays (or anytime)!

Thanks for reading.
