Faculty of Science Welcomes Dr. Matthew Churchward

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Matthew Churchward to the Faculty of Science and the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Biology, beginning August 1, 2020.
Dr. Churchward holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Calgary on: The Roles of Cholesterol in Calcium Triggered Membrane Merger. After a post doctoral fellowship at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Edinburgh, UK, Matt joined the Neurochemical Research Unit at the University of Alberta. He progressed onto a Research Associate and joins us from the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute in the department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta.
Matt, an avid instructor brings to CUE a strong network of collaborators on his research interests as well as his cross disciplinary take in both the area of teaching and research.
With several publications on Neuroscience, Matt looks forward to work with colleagues in the Biology program and has in addition, already started collaboration with colleagues in the chemistry program for courses in the biochemistry minor.
