An exciting Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Brazilian university, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (“FURG”) and Concordia University of Edmonton (“CUE”).

The MOU establishes a framework in which both universities will collaborate and develop a relationship to encourage academic mobility, collaborative research, exchange of academic materials, cultural co-operation, and special short-term academic programs, particularly in the areas of environmental science.

Dr. Xin Chen from CUE visited FURG in 2017 with a small cohort of CUE students, to study environmental and marine biology and physiology and is enthusiastic about this collaboration agreement. “We are thrilled at the opportunities that this partnership will bring to our students,” he said. “Many collaborative opportunities for science!”

“This is our first federal university partner in Brazil,” says Dr. Manfred Zeuch, VP External Affairs and International Relations. “We look forward to an active partnership with this prestigious institution. In fact, we are planning another student research trip to FURG next year.”
