Women’s Soccer Head to Championships

Posted on: Oct 23, 2012

Saturday was the biggest game of the regular season for the Concordia Thunder Women’s Soccer team as they took on the NAIT Ooks in a battle for first place.

Before NAIT could even catch their breath, Kacey Paplawski struck twice to put the Thunder up 2-Nil in the first 9 minutes of the game and the teams went into halftime with the Thunder still up by 2. The second half was dominated by Sheena Tracey who did everything but score. In the 87th minute, a shot to the near post deflected off a Concordia defender and snuck past Keeper Trish Arends. The Thunder held their ground as the last few seconds ticked away, holding on for the 2-1 victory.

Sunday’s game was the final step to the Thunder securing their first place status, handing the Keyano Huskies a 5-Nil defeat.

With the victories, the Thunder have captured 1st place and will play their first game of the ACAC Championships at 2:20 PM on Saturday, October 27th against the winner of the quarterfinal between MacEwan and Red Deer College.

Good luck and GO THUNDER!
