Cancer and Marvel Comics: A Talk by Reginald Wiebe

Dr. Reginald Wiebe will be discussing his ongoing collaborative work (with Dorothy Woodman, from the University of Alberta) on cancer and superheroes. Their project explores the intersection of narratives of illness, specifically cancer, and neoliberal ideals of heroism embodied in Marvel superheroes. His talk will focus on the genesis of the project, which began with an examination of a suite of covers Marvel comics produced in collaboration with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and discuss the particular case of Marvel's new Thor."
