The Faculty Writing Circle is back this Friday, now online!

Posted on: Aug 3, 2020

We are relaunching the Faculty Writing Circle (FWC) online now, now led by the AVP Research, Ramses Ilarraza.
This group has been meeting for the past two years under the leadership of the Vice-President Academic & Provost Valerie Henitiuk.

When will the Faculty Writing Circle meet?

As before, the FWC will meet every Friday 9:00 -10:00 a.m. starting on Friday, August 7th, 2020. However, the meetings will now be held online, via Google Meet.

Who can join?

Everyone at CUE are welcome to join this informal support group, which is intended to provide that much needed space in our calendars to focus on academic writing. We welcome CUE members from all backgrounds and stages in their academic careers.

To join the list of participants, email us at research@concordia.ab.ca. In case you have not yet been included in the list, you may still request to join  a session using the following link.

What are the benefits of participating?

Few things are as rewarding as being able to share our thoughts, or our research findings. The Faculty Writing Circle provides an opportunity to further our impact through structured time for thinking and writing, outside from our regular activities. As an added benefit, you will become part of a group of colleagues with whom to discuss and collaborate, helping everyone further their writing goals.

How does the Faculty Writing Circle work?

As participants in the Faculty Writing Circle, we can use the time to write silently, focusing on our own projects. Or we can engage in discussions, bouncing ideas and drafts off one another. We can even talk about academic writing in general–process and product. The Faculty Writing Circle will become what we decide to make of it.
During the first meeting of this new stage, the goal will be to reach a consensus of how the Faculty Writing Circle will operate in the next months, and how to make the best out of the experience of being part of this engaged group. We will also assess whether a different time slot may work best, with the possibility of opening additional times if there is sufficient interest from members for it.
