Message from President and Vice Chancellor Tim Loreman
Posted on: Nov 29, 2018Ensuring the safety and security of everyone on campus is our top priority here at Concordia University of Edmonton. With this in mind, we believe it is important to inform you of an incident that has occurred.
We were recently informed by the Edmonton Police Service that a non-academic employee of Concordia University of Edmonton has been criminally charged with alleged voyeurism. Concordia University of Edmonton has a zero-tolerance policy for such behaviour, which goes against our code of conduct and sexual violence policies. The issue is being taken very seriously by our administrative team and we are working closely with the Edmonton Police Service to provide any assistance we can to their investigations. Upon being informed Concordia University of Edmonton immediately suspended the employee pending further information being gathered, and banned him from university grounds. The full extent or exact nature of the allegations are not yet known, but we will be relying on the Edmonton Police Service to provide updated pertinent information as their investigation proceeds, and we are comfortable that they have things well in hand and that any potential ongoing risk is being mitigated.
Our first priority is – and always will be – to ensure our campus is a safe and secure place for all. Our code of conduct and policies set clear expectations for our community and standards for how we treat one another. We act quickly to investigate and resolve any violations to maintain the integrity of our strong and safe community, and are doing so here. It is not presently known whether or not these matters otherwise involve or affect any member of the Concordia University of Edmonton community directly, but we felt it was important that our community be generally aware of the matter and the steps being taken to address it.
We are also committed to the health of our campus community. We therefore encourage anyone affected to access our network of counsellors who are available for private and discrete counselling as required. Please visit the Student Success Centre between 8:30am and 4:30pm or call 780-479-9241, to access these supports.
