Do Cults and Other High Demand Groups ‘Brainwash’?
In the last 30 years brainwashing allegations swirled around the practices of many controversial ideological groups (better known as sects, cults, or new religions). Central to the debate are issues involving free will and agency, in addition to the measurability of the brainwashing concept itself. Prof. Kent will argue for the legitimacy of the concept in this context.
Prof. Steven Kent is a professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta.
