Injury Plagued Thunder Hockey Drop Two to MacEwan
Posted on: Jan 18, 2016This weekend the Concordia Thunder matched up against the MacEwan Griffins. The Friday night tilt at Bill Hunter arena did not go well for a banged up Thunder squad as they dropped a 6 to 1 final to GMU.
Saturday night at home in Clareview, the Thunder came out hard and jumped out to a quick 2 to 0 lead in the first period on goals by Tyler Stevenson and Adam Wheeldon. However the Griffins stormed back in the second period with a pair of power play goals and the game was tied at 3 headed into the third period. Midway through the third period MacEwan took a 4 to 3 lead setting up a furious finish. Despite having a late 5 minute power play the Thunder could not tie the game and MacEwan added two empty net goals to salt away a 6 to 3 win. It was a disappointing loss for the Thunder who have suddenly been hit by the injury bug and are battling without the services of some key players. Next weekend the Thunder look to bounce back and get into the win column against the Portage Voyageurs.
