Thunder Hockey Earn Split in Season Openers
Posted on: Sep 28, 2015This weekend the Thunder opened up the regular season with a pair of games against the RDC Kings. On Friday night in enemy territory, the Thunder found themselves down 3 to 1 after the first period but fought back to secure a well-deserved 5 to 4 victory. Adam Wheeldon led the way offensively with his first 2 goals as a Thunder player. Jordan Hoffman, Fil Kejdana and Brady Bakke also added goals and Rhys Hadfield made 44 saves to earn his first win of the year.
Back at home on Saturday night, the Thunder found themselves down early, trailing the Kings 3-0. Despite a solid 2nd period, the Thunder were only able to beat the RDC goalie once with a Tyler Stevenson goal and trailed 4 to 1 heading into the final frame. The Thunder struggled in the third, getting into penalty trouble and were not able to recover as the Kings scored 4 late goals to win 8 to 1.
The Thunder look to bounce back and get into the win column again next weekend when they play the SAIT Trojans. Friday's matchup is in Calgary and then the teams are back at Clareview on Saturday night at 8:15.
