Thunder Men’s Hockey Tune Up for Regular Season

Posted on: Sep 23, 2013

The Thunder Men's Hockey team played a pair of games over the weekend in preparation for their upcoming ACAC season opener. In the first of two games hosted by NAIT, the Thunder faced off against the Selkirk College Saints.  In early season fashion, the Thunder had a couple of rough periods to start off but pulled it together in the 3rd narrowly losing to the visitors from BC by a 3-2 margin.  On Saturday evening, the Thunder faced the host NAIT Ooks wherein they came out very strong in the first period, faltered in the second and then pulled it back together in the third frame.  Although they yielded a final 4-2 decision to the Ooks, Coach Dan Peacocke said his squad "has shown steady improvement each game, with some inconsistent but positive signs that the team will be ready to compete at a very high level when the season opens next weekend."  Coach Peacocke and the Thunder also wanted to thank all the fans including members of the senior administration who made it out to the arena to support the hockey team on the weekend.  "It's wonderful to have such a loyal group of supporters who really appreciate all that the hockey program brings to the University."
The Thunder open the regular season next weekend when they once again face the NAIT Ooks at NAIT on Friday, September 27th at 7:00 pm before hosting their first home game at Glengarry Arena (13340-85th St.). The puck drops at 8:15 PM on Saturday night.
