Thunder Hockey Celebrate a Great Four Point Weekend
Posted on: Oct 13, 2015This past weekend the Thunder came away with two big wins against their cross town rival MacEwan University. On Friday night at home the Thunder trailed during the third period but found a tying goal from rookie Conner Dea (his first in the ACAC). Late in the game Tyler Stevenson cashed in a game winner on the power play and the Thunder held on to win the game 3 to 2. Rhys Hadfield was excellent in the game stopping 47 shots.
On Saturday night at Bill Hunter Arena the Thunder jumped out to an early 2 to 0 lead but saw the Griffins claw their way back and tie the game. After trading goals in the second period and a hard fought third period, the game headed to overtime. Just 46 seconds into the OT Phil Dillon scored to give the Thunder a 4 to 3 victory. Nathan Smith led the way for the Thunder with 3 assists and is now tied for the league lead in points with 8.
The weekend was a huge confidence builder for the Thunder and they head to Portage on Friday night tied for 4th in the ACAC. The team looks forward to playing the return match against the Voyageurs on Saturday night at Clareview and hope to see many Thunder supporters in the stands.
